Dr. Alan Meholick, a cardiologist and partner in Buffalo Heart Group, died Oct. 26 in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, a month after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was 60. Born in North Tonawanda, he played trumpet in the marching band at North Tonawanda High School and graduated in 1977. That summer he met Athena Grenos on the beach at Beaver Island State Park. We were both sun worshipers, she said. They were married in 1983. He earned a bachelors degree in biology from Canisius College in 1981. After completing his medical degree at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine in 1986, he served his internship at Buffalo General Hospital and his residency in cardiology at Millard Fillmore Hospital. His father had a heart attack at a young age, his wife said, and he wanted to help people like his dad. Dr. Meholick was a cardiologist and partner with Buffalo Heart Group from 1992 to 2017. He was active in clinical research into anti-angina medications, cholesterol-lowering drugs and congestive heart failure. Since 2017, he had been a cardiologist with Trinity Medical Cardiology, which acquired Buffalo Heart Group. He was a clinical assistant professor in the UB Medical School. He was really loved by his patients, his wife said. He treated everybody like a friend. When they asked him what he wanted to be called, he would say, Just call me Alan. A Getzville resident, he enjoyed golf, landscaping and traveling with his family. He was a three-time cruise ship table tennis champion. In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Adriana and Stephanie; and a brother, James. Funeral services will be private.
