FILIPPONE, Angela J. (nee Chiappone) Departed her life on earth on March 2, 2024. Beloved wife of Salvatore; loving mother of Randall M. (Karen), Gregg (Robin), and the late Marc-Jon. Angelas legacy of love continues in the lives of her beloved and precious grandchildren Ashlee McKean (Michael Taberski), Randall S., Andrew, Haley Norton (Matthew). Angela is also survived by her sister and best friend Gayle Ciraolo and her husband Peter; Robert Filippone (Patricia); Mary Filippone (late John). Her late parents Louis and Lena Chiappone were well known residents of Angola, NY. Her cousins, nieces and nephews, in both Angola and the Buffalo area, always held a special place in her heart. Angela worked in government for over 50 years. She served on the Buffalo Common Council, attended two presidential conventions as an elected delegate in 1976 and 1988. She was honored as "Woman of the Year" by Erie County in in 2004 and was recognized by many Italian-American organizations for her accomplishments. Most notably being the first Italian-American woman to be elected to the City of Buffalo Common Council. Until her retirement in 2006, she served as public liaison to the former County Executive Joel A. Giambra. She enjoyed volunteering her time to Tonawanda Town Clerk Marguerite Greco, who once served as her administrative assistant during her years as Councilwoman. Since July 2023, her career is being honored in an exhibit highlighting impactful local Italian-American government leaders at the Italian Cultural Center of Buffalo. Her achievement is further commemorated with a brick on the walkway of the center. She will be missed. At Angelas request services will be private. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery/ Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in her name to the Italian Cultural Center of Buffalo.
