Barbara Ellen O'Bannon

OBannon, Barbara Ellen, 91, of Snyder, NY, died peacefully on August 16, 2024. Born January 4, 1933 in Buffalo, NY, to the late Josephine and Jack OBannon. Survived by children Keith, Craig (Erin) and Andrew Hornbarger and Katharine Crane (Lansing); sister Belinda OBannon; grandchildren Douglas, Kevin, Kelly, Sarah, and Jacob; and five nieces and one nephew. Predeceased by her brother Brian OBannon. Her previous marriage to the late Peter H. Hornbarger ended in divorce. She received a masters degree in social work from the University of Buffalo in her late 40s and worked for Catholic Charities as well as a private practitioner for many years. She enjoyed reading, especially mysteries, watching movies, attending Buffalo Philharmonic performances, and visiting the Chautauqua Institution. Until her later years, she traveled extensively, including throughout Europe and the Middle East as well as to China. She was a beloved presence on the street where she maintained a home for many years, and she will be deeply missed. Online condolences may be made on this page.
