Bonnie M. Werdein

April 1, 1934 — April 14, 2023

Bonnie 'Easter Bonnie' Werdein, 89, of North Buffalo, passed away April 14, 2023 at McAuley Residence. Bonnie has lived at McAuley since 2013 and made friends with all the staff and residents. She was born in Buffalo on April 1, 1934, the daughter of the late Bonaventure A. and Elsie (nee Stiegler) Werdein. She is the younger of 2 children. Shortly before Bonnie was born, her father and grandfather had succumbed to inhaling gas fumes from a heater that malfunctioned. She was raised by her mother and her sister. As Bonnie grew up, she was always one to make a friend wherever she went as everyone gravitated towards her kind and nurturing spirit. After graduating high school, she got her degree in accounting and began to work for W & F Manufacturing which was a candle company located in Buffalo. Bonnie worked for them for over 20 years and loved every second of it. Bonnie worked closely with her parish starting at a young age at St. Michael's Church. She worked there for over 14 years running Bingo and also helped in the office and as a Eucharistic Minister. While working Bingo, Bonnie because close with Margi Richards, Chris Miller and Father Gresik. Many of her friends say she is known for her prolific card and letter writing. She has yet to miss a birthday card for her friends in over 50 years. In her spare time, Bonnie enjoyed traveling to sites of religious significance and even helped by paying out of pocket for friends to attend. She would attend trips to Lourdes and other holy Catholic sites. Bonnie was of modest means but would give to charity and church. She also volunteered her time and talents to everyone, including at the Carmelite Monastery and to the sick and deaf in her community. As Bonnie aged, she became an avid fan of Perry Mason and she also adores cats. Her favorite cat was named 'Tootsie.' Even though Bonnie was a private person by nature, once she warmed up to you, she was a social butterfly. Before McAuley residence, Bonnie was a resident at Mount View Assisted Living and was loved by everyone there as well. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents; Bonnie is preceded in death by her sister, Judith Ann Pfohman in 2014. Survivors include her 2 nephews, David (Amber) Pfohman and Joseph Pfohman; a niece, Karen Pfohman (John Bertozzi) and several great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and a host of friends. No prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michaels Church, 651 Washington Street, Buffalo, NY 14203 on Thursday at 9:30 oclock. Please assemble at church.
