Bruce M. Hoffman

November 19, 1945 — October 27, 2021

Bruce Martin Hoffman age 75, of East Amherst, entered into rest peacefully on October 27th, 2021 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of 51 years to Jane (nee Miller) Hoffman, Bruce was born on November 19, 1945 and raised in Kenmore, N.Y., to the late Lawrence Hoffman and E. Bernece (Harris) Hoffman. An Alumni of Syracuse University, where he met his wife Jane, Bruce worked at Forest Materials Inc., a custom millwork company that his father founded in 1952. Bruce commenced his career at the company as a teenager unloading lumber boxcars and after college worked in industrial sales. He became President in 1978, expanding the company into one of the largest architectural, lumber and millwork companies in the area. Bruce held this position until 2015 when his son Jeffrey succeeded him, although he remained as an entrusted advisor until his death. As a lifetime supporter and advocate of the skilled trades, Bruce was well respected in the Western New York business world. He was a member of the Cheektowaga Rotary Club since 1970, serving as President multiple terms. He was also a past President of both the Building Industry Employers of New York State, as well as the Construction Club, and he served on the Board of the Construction Exchange of Buffalo and Western New York. A business owner and devoted family man, Bruce was a friend to everyone he met. His outgoing personality was larger than life, earning him the nickname of Big Bruce to family, friends and colleagues alike. Living life to the fullest, his giant smile and sense of humor could win over any room. Bruce was also a huge supporter of the Buffalo sports franchises and was a fixture at both the Bills and Sabres games. When not at work, Bruce enjoyed golfing, fishing, and travel, but he was especially fond of spending time with his children, Jeffrey Hoffman, husband of Shannon Hoffman and Susan Steis, wife of Alex Steis, as well as grandchildren Brooke, Colette, Aiden and Austin, who lovingly referred to him as Pa. Bruce is also survived by a brother Howard Hoffman, husband of Jean Hoffman and sister Holly Cook, wife of Bill Cook. Relatives and friends may visit the Lombardo Funeral Home (Snyder Chapel) 4614 Main Street, near Harlem Road on Friday, November 5th from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 6th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bruces memory can be made to the Construction Industry Education Foundation (2660 William Street, Cheektowaga, N.Y. 14227), for their scholarship fund.
