Bruno A. Arcudi

June 9, 1923 — March 17, 2017

ARCUDI - Bruno A. Died March 17, 2017, in Buffalo, NY. He was born June 9, 1923 in Westport, CT, the son of Carmelo and Mary (Passafiume) Arcudi. He graduated from Yale University in 1943 on an accelerated program, and then served as a navigator in the Eighth Air Force division of the USAAF during World War II. He completed his studies at Yale where he received a PhD after the war. As he was studying at Yale, he served the town of Westport as Chairman of the Board of Education. He then taught at Yale, Rutgers, and the University of California at Berkeley before serving his country once again in the USIA in Brazil and Italy. He returned to the United States in 1965 to resume his teaching career at SUNY at Buffalo where he was a Professor of Italian and Italian literature. He taught at UB for nearly thirty years--serving for a time as the head of the Italian Department--before retiring in 1993. His survivors include his three sons, Charles, Anthony, and John; and two grandsons, Joseph and Zachary. He also leaves behind five siblings, Rose DiMartino, Anna Malootian, Elvira Ebling, Angela McKelvey and Joseph Arcudi. He was predeceased by his parents, his ex-wife, Lynne, and his brother John. Relatives and friends may visit the LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Northtowns Chapel) 885 Niagara Falls Blvd. near Eggert/Sheridan Dr. on Saturday from 1-3PM. Funeral Service will immediately follow.
