Carol J. Schaefer (nee Kalarovich), born August 28, 1963, passed away on December 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy woven from kindness, hope, humor, and the countless lives she lifted-often in ways she never fully realized.
Like the beloved story It's a Wonderful Life, Carol's life was a testament to how one person's steady love and everyday acts of goodness can ripple outward, shaping a community. For more than two decades, she devoted herself to teaching, guiding her students with patience, encouragement, and a belief in their potential. Many found their confidence-and their spark-because she cared.
Carol was known not only for her compassion, but also for her wonderful sense of humor. She had a gift for lightening a room, easing a difficult moment, or bringing out a smile just when it was needed most. Her laughter was a comfort and a reminder that joy can be found even in the simplest moments.
She was the treasured wife of the late Michael W. Schaefer, her partner in life and love. Carol was the cherished daughter of John P. and Maryann (nee Webb) Kalarovich, whose values of family and kindness she carried throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Jamie L. (Nicholas) Nicoloff, and her son Michael P. Schaefer, who carry forward her strength, humor, and gentle heart. Carol also leaves behind her sisters, Debra A. (late David) Simmons and Donna M. (Vincent) Montanari, and her brother John K. (late Ina) Kalarovich. Her family was her world, and she poured her love into them generously and without hesitation.
Carol's life was a beautiful reminder that the simplest gifts-kindness, dedication, laughter, and love-are often the ones that make the greatest difference. Her impact can be felt in the students she encouraged, the family she supported, and the quiet moments of grace she offered to all who crossed her path.
Because of Carol, the world is a little brighter, a little softer, a little funnier, and a great deal more wonderful.
