TRAVERS, Carol M (Healy) of Middleport entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 5, 2023. Carol was born in Pittsburgh on July 10, 1941, the first daughter of Philip "Pat" Healy and Frances Healy. She was joined two years later by her only sister, Frances, and the family moved to New Castle, PA. She is survived by her children: William P. (Cynthia) Travers, Joseph A. (Cindy) Travers, Bruce E. (Robyn) Travers, and Rose M. Williams. She had four grandchildren: Jordan Williams, Ryan Travers, Seth Williams, and James Carmen. Also surviving are her sister Fran, and her nieces Monique Galvin, Elaine Duvall, and Robert Quinlan. Carol graduated from New Castle High as one of the "Lions of 59," and attended Slippery Rock University to become a teacher. She married Bill Travers in 1963, and the family moved to Middleport, NY, when Bill was hired to teach at Royalton-Hartland Central School. Once the children were old enough, she began teaching at Middleport Elementary School. She specialized in reading and remedial math and made many friends among the teachers and staff. She was very good with the students, and she was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1994. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, television mystery shows, and nature. Carol would recount how she grew up a city girl and cried about moving to a small town like Middleport. Yet, she quickly became a country girl and couldnt imagine ever moving away from it. She enjoyed especially her last home in Middleport, where deer would frequently wander into her back yard. She cared for many cats over the years, including her last roommate, Fuzz. She could often be found on the shores of Lake Ontario, just watching the waves, which gave her a tremendous sense of peace. Upon retirement, Carol vowed to go traveling, and she did. She took cruises to Alaska, a train trip across Canada, a train ride to Moosonee, several trips to Sarnia, Ontario, the childhood home of her mother, and Ireland, her ancestral home. Perhaps more than anything, Carol loved her family. She took great pride in her childrens accomplishments. She regularly attended church, was quick to laugh, and had a famous sweet tooth. Despite being Irish, she also made the best pizza. She will be missed by everyone who knew her and remembered by everyone who met her.
