Cathleen Rine 12/12/59 - 9/2/23 Relatives and friends may visit the LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Southtowns Chapel) 3060 Abbott Rd., near Lake Ave. on Thursday (September 7) from 2-7PM, where prayers will be held on Friday morning at 9AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Charity (Holy Family Worship Site), Buffalo at 10AM. Cathleen was a beloved Wife of Robert Rine. Daughter of the late Albert and Janet Renzi. Mother of David Rine (Kara) and Caitlyn Rine (Daniel). Sister of Raymond Renzi (Cheryl), Rosanne Kourt (Raymond), Allan Renzi (Diane), and Mary Jordan (Jay). Grandmother to William, Delilah, Carmela and Nikola. Aunt to 11 nieces and nephews. Cathy was born and raised in Buffalo NY. She graduated from South Park High School in 1978. From there Cathy received a full ride to Canisius College on a gymnastics scholarship. Throughout her gymnastics career, she won countless individual and team awards. When the gymnastics program at Canisius unfortunately closed In 1980 she transferred to the University of Buffalo, where she graduated with a degree in physical education (1982). Together, Cathy and Bob were a large part of the gymnastics community. They owned Rines Gymnastics Center for 35 years, and made the difficult decision to retire in 2008. She touched the lives of many young athletes as a coach, mentor and friend. Cathy was an elite judge for the USAG. No matter where she was, when gymnastics was involved, everyone knew Cathy Rine. She was a teachers aid for the West Seneca School District for 17 years. The dedication, kindness and selflessness Cathy had for her students, influenced their lives greatly. Cathy began her fight in 2013, when she was diagnosed with a rare terminal form of cancer. Her original prognoses was about 4-5 years. With her strong will, she beat the odds and doubled her life expectancy. During this time, Cathy never complained, never gave up, and fought until she took her last breath. Cathy touched the lives of so many, and truly left her mark on this world. Her legacy will continue to live on through the various memories we all share. She will be missed more than words can say. We love you, Cathleen Rine. Rest easy our sweet Angel.
