Of Amherst, died peacefully August 28, 2014. Stanko, a World War II Combat Hero of the U.S. Army, 95th Infantry Division, "The Bravest of the Brave", "Iron Men of Metz," received two Bronze Stars as a "Liberator," several medals and other honors. "Chet" was the beloved husband of Angeline (nee Caruana) Stanko (66 years); devoted father of Thomas (Mary Ann) Stanko and Joan (Chris) Stolz; cherished grandfather of Michael (Danielle), Scott and Ryan Stanko; loving son of the late Walter and Victoria (nee Wojniak) Stanko; dear brother of Charlotte (late Ronald) LaBrode and Henry Stanko; also survived by many loved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
