David J. Mietlicki

David J. Mietlicki, born on March 1, 1984, in Buffalo, passed into eternal life on December 16, 2024 in Boston, Massachusetts after a brief illness. He was the cherished son of David E. and Janet Mietlicki of Amherst, and the loving father of David P., Sarah "Andi" and Ruth Mietlicki of Franklin, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Mietlicki; his sister, Mary (Mark) Makar; his nephews, Samuel and Oliver Makar; his friend and ex-wife, Laura Mietlicki; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. David was Valedictorian of the class of 2002 at La Salle Institute in Troy, NY. He attended Villanova University, where he met Laura during their time playing in the Villanova bands. He earned a PhD in Physics from the University of Michigan, although his family never quite understood any of his doctoral work. For the past 12 years, he worked as a Quality Development Engineer for InterSystems, where he was somehow the "cool guy" in the office, responsible for planning team building events for the interns. He had a passion for Villanova and Michigan athletics, and was happy to know that Michigan recently beat Ohio State. Go Blue! David was a fiercely loyal person who always wanted the best for his children. He was a lifelong Boy Scout, having earned the rank of Eagle Scout in high school. He shared his love of scouting with David P. He also enjoyed playing board games and role-playing games, especially in his D&D group with Sarah "Andi." Much to his familys surprise, he became a "Dance Dad" for Ruth and even agreed to perform with her at her recitals. The family will be present on December 26, 2024 from 4 8pm at Lombardo Funeral Home, 885 Niagara Falls Blvd. Amherst, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph University Parish on December 27, 2024 at 10:00AM (please assemble at church). Family and friends invited. Flowers are gratefully declined.
