BRASURE - Donald Eugene 5/27/1925 7/23/2023 Donald Brasure died peacefully Sunday July 23, 2023 at age 98. Donald was youngest of the five children of Ray E. and Catherine (Potts) Brasure of Hartford, Wisconsin. He was the husband of late Carol C. (nee Cragoe) Brasure; father of Elizabeth (Steven Giles), John, and Eve (James) Berry; grandfather of Daniel (Janice Mladonicky) Giles, Thomas (Jessica Anderson) Giles, and Alexander Berry; and great-grandfather of Benson, Bodhi and Eila Giles. During WW II Don was a weather observer in the Pacific in the 20th Weather Service Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Forces. He studied chemistry, elected to Phi Beta Kappa in his junior year, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Illinois with BS and PhD degrees in chemistry. Don was employed for 37 years by E. I. DuPont in Town of Tonawanda NY as a research chemist, retiring in 1990 as senior research associate. His work produced Tedlar(r), a pigmented polyvinyl fluoride film, and other materials used in various industries including the Boeing airplanes and those ubiquitous green highway road signs. He had six U.S. patents. Don loved nature especially bird and butterfly watching. He invested countless volunteer hours with Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels, Silver Wheels Wheelchair Football Team, Tifft Nature Preserve and others. He was on the executive committee of the Friends of the Kenmore Library. He had also served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst. Don served many roles in politics in the Town of Tonawanda, as a committeeman, zone leader, vice chairman, and lastly treasurer of the Town of Tonawanda Democratic Committee.
