Douglas Purcell

d. March 20, 2022

Artist. Chef. Designer. Musician. Comedian. Teacher. Father. Favorite uncle. Traveler. Friend. Doug was a true Renaissance man whose talents were wide-ranging, whose influence was long-lasting, and who relished the ability to make people laugh. A Vice President at Cannon Design, he was lead interior designer on numerous award-winning projects during his 37 years there, including Children's Medical Center of Israel, Sabanci University in Turkey, NCR headquarters in New York City and San Francisco, Rochester City Schools, M&T, and many others. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Maureen (nee Dundon), daughters Abigail and Lydia, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. A native of Detroit, Doug began his career teaching life drawing and painting at his alma mater, the College for Creative Studies. He then worked as an artist and designer in New York City for many years. His art is in several private and corporate collections, including NBC and M&T Bank. Following retirement in 2010, Doug played harmonica in a blues band, the Easy Street Sliders. He also traveled, gardened, and kept family and friends sustained with his humor and culinary talents. Friends may call at Lombardo Funeral Home, 4614 Main Street, Snyder, Friday, March 25, 2022 from 4 - 8 pm. A memorial service will be held Saturday March 26, 2022 at 11:30 am at Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Buffalo, Jazz Buffalo, or Living Arts-Detroit are welcome.
