KORITZ - Hans Rutger, M.D. With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our dearly cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, Hans, on July 2, 2018. Surrounded by his loved ones, he passed peacefully at home on Grand Island, NY. Beloved husband of Eva M. (nee Kirsebom) Koritz; devoted father of Joy D. Koritz; loving son of the late Gosta and Doris Koritz; loved brother of Bjorn Koritz and the late Rolf Koritz; dear brother-in-law of Leif Kirsebom. Hans was born on February 15, 1946 in Uddevalla, Sweden and grew up in Djursholm, Sweden. He attended medical school at the University of Zurich, Switzerland and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Hans was inspired to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, who was one of the first pain management specialists in Canada. He chose to specialize in pain management because of his deep belief that people should not lose quality of life because of pain. Dr. Koritz was a physician and pain management specialist in Western New York for over 25 years. His smile, humor, laughter and positive attitude brought happiness to everyone he met and hope to his patients. His hobbies and passions included photography, traveling with his family, his many pets and staying up to date on new advances in medicine. Hans was proudly a longtime Rotarian in both Canada and Western New York. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the many skilled and compassionate professionals who were involved in Hans' care during his illness. Throughout his life's journey, he always said "there is hope." Family, friends, colleagues and patients may visit the LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Northtowns Chapel), 885 Niagara Falls Blvd., near Eggert/Sheridan Dr., on Sunday (July 15th) from 2-4PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors without Borders. The family would appreciate letters, notes, cards and pictures that can be dropped off during visitation, which will later be assembled into a memory book of Hans.
