James Edward Ponzo II entered into rest April 4, 2024. A devoted son and brother, he is survived by his mother Doris Tolliver (Carlton), father James Ponzo, stepfather Jimmy E. Tolliver, sister Andrea Ponzo, sister Tonia Frazier, sister Kara Ponzo, sister Victoria Lewis, brother Jamone Ponzo, and brother Andrew Ponzo and many friends. His dedication to social justice defined Dr. Ponzos character and led him to a career in higher education. His commitment to education earned him an Arthur A. Schomburg Fellowship and garnered him a nomination for the SUNY Chancellors Award for Student Excellence. After his doctorate was conferred, he secured a faculty position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Africana and American Studies at SUNY Buffalo. His work at the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center was featured in the CBCs "The Cataract House" documenting the sites historical significance. A service will be held at LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME 885 Niagara Falls Blvd. Amherst, NY 14226 on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm; service to follow at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers Donations can be made to Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center
