Obituary of Dr. Wilson, Michael F. - of Buffalo, NY, died peacefully on February 25, 2021. Beloved husband of Barbara G. Wilson and the late Clare S. Wilson; dearest father of Helen Wilson, Rebecca (Charles) Parry, Michael Wilson, Elizabeth (late Steve Deutsch) Wilson and Sarah Wilson; cherished grandfather of Douglas (Lara) Parry, Anna Parry, Rachel Deutsch and Michael Deutsch; loving son of the late Judge Minter L. Wilson, Sr. and the late Mary Mildred Wilson; dear brother to sister JoAn W. (late George) Keadle; preceded in death by 2 siblings, the late Colonel Minter L. (late Hope) Wilson, Jr., the late Thomas Wilson, also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, colleagues and friends. After his youth in Morgantown, WV, Dr. Wilson was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the World War II post conflict as a 2 nd Lieutenant in the 26 th Infantry working as an attach to Colonel McConnell, Press Officer, at the Nuremberg Trials. Dr. Wilson graduated from West Virginia University in 1949 and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1953. Initially, his career focused on academic medicine with appointments at the departments of physiology and biophysics at the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky and West Virginia University. He was a professor of cardiology with secondary appointments in radiology and psychiatry at the University of Oklahoma. Throughout his medical career, he was a clinician, researcher, and an administrator. He was a trailblazer in cardiovascular nuclear medicine spanning from the very first nuclear imaging studies to fractional flow reserve with cardiovascular computed tomography (CCT) today. He introduced CCT in Buffalo hospitals. He was a founding member of the Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and established the Mike Wilson Distinguished Lectureship. He received numerous awards and honors and authored hundreds of research publications. He retired at age 93 as the Medical Director of Imaging at Kaleida Health after a 66 year distinguished career in cardiology. In July 2020, Dr. Wilson was awarded Emeritus Status by the Department of Internal Medicine, Kaleida Health, at Buffalo General Hospital. He was an attentive listener, always supportive of his children and wife and also extended family members. He also showed the same care and compassion with his patients. He was loved by everyone who knew him. He was the rock of our family and we will miss his broad smile and sense of humor. There will be a private family burial service with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
