Elizabeth Ann Wechter (ne Doran) of East Aurora, NY (Orchard Park, NY / Montauk, NY) has died peacefully on January 18, 2023 of natural causes (85, b. 16 February 1937). She is survived by her 3 sons Jeffrey (1959-, Minneapolis, MN; Teri), Steven (1961-, Geneva, CH; Heidrun) and David (1964-, Lisbon, PT- / Pittsburgh, PA; Heather), 6 cherished grandchildren (Adam, Daniel, Hannah, Jenn, Nick, Noah), siblings Catherine (Geneva, NY; Chic) and Peter (Kure Beach, NC; Cynthia) and many nieces and nephews including Ashley (Orchard Park, NY; Scott), Rachael (Tuscaloosa, AL) and Mallory (Kure Beach, NC; Hayden). Ann Wechter was born to Elsie Romaine Jones Doran (Warsaw, NY / Providence, RI), and grew up in East Aurora on Chestnut Hill Rd with siblings Tom, John, Catherine and Peter. Gifted in the arts and writing, Ann pursued liberal arts, graduating from Green Mountain College (VT) and Buffalo State College (NY). Ann was married to Donald W Wechter (1930-2016) of East Aurora for 25 years, and later partnered with Captain John H Keller of Montauk, NY (1927-2003) for 20 years. Born and raised in East Aurora, Ann raised her family on Glenridge Rd in East Aurora. During her years in East Aurora, she spent time on numerous activities including Junior League, Carborundum Museum guide, Aurora Players make-up, and worked at Siegel legal practice and fine clothes retail stores. She dabbled in dance as a child and skiing as an adult and was an avid Buffalo Sabres season ticket holder during the French Connection years. After her time in East Aurora, Ann was part of the sport and commercial fishing community along the Eastern Seaboard with her partner Captain Keller. They spent summers in Montauk, NY fishing for tuna, and winters fishing out of Key West, FL. After the death of Captain Keller, Ann returned to Western NY in 2005 settling next to brother John and niece Ashley. Ann spent the next 18 years making new friends, playing bridge and traveling throughout Europe on visits to family. Even at her advanced age, Ann kept the lively personality she had throughout the years. She stayed engaged with the world and managed new challenges all along the way. When asked to look back on her time, she said she had a full and interesting life, and looked forward to spending more time with her mother and other loved ones again.
