Esteban Torres Jr. (Chili), was born on September 21, 1957, to Esteban Torres Sr. and Onelia (Ney) Torres (both predeceased). He was the first grandson to Reverendo Jorge Martinez and Adriana Martinez (Chana), also predeceased. Born to a family of all girls, Chili was revered by all in the family and adored by his sisters Lily and Lolita (Rury), and sister cousins Noem and Becky. While his parents were both natives of Puerto Rico, Chili was born in Buffalo, NY and grew up on the Eastside of town (Seneca, Myrtle and Swan streets). He attended PS#6, Clinton Jr. High (MS#87) and Burgard High School. As a teenager and young adult Chili was athletically active. Through the guidance of his late uncle, Jorge Guadalupe he became a batboy for the Puerto Rican Lions baseball team and later ventured into other sports and teams (baseball, basketball and football) with his neighborhood childhood friends. Equal to his love for sports was his love for dancing (Salsa, Disco and Soul music). With so many girls in the family Chili was never at a loss for a dance partner. In his late teens, Chilis mom relocated to Brooklyn, NY with him and his two sisters. While in Brooklyn Chili joined the National Guard and upon return from service he met Maribel (Mary) Melendez and united as a family, becoming a father to Alicia Alarco and shortly after his first born Jasami Taisha (Jazzy) Torres. Years later, Chili met and married Evelyn Rivera who birthed his son Steven. In recent years Chili returned to Buffalo with his wife Evelyn and son Steven. While living in Buffalo Chili reconnected with his many childhood friends and reminisced the good old days. The past couple of years he settled in Pennsylvania until his untimely passing on February 7, 2024. Chili is survived by his wife Evelyn, son Steven, daughters Jasami and Alicia (Melvyn Hernandez), and 8 grandchildren.
