CASSARO, Eugene C. - Of Buffalo, entered into rest on November 5, 2023. Beloved husband of the late Donna (nee Morris) Cassaro; devoted father of Jami (Stephen) DiRose; step-father of Michael and Timothy Haynes; cherished grandfather of Avery, Justin, Mason, and Michael; loving son of the late Carmelo and Pauline Cassaro; dear brother of Marie (late Carmen) Bertoloni. Relatives and friends may visit the LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Northtowns Chapel) 885 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst (near Eggert Rd.) on Friday, November 10th from 2-4 & 6-8PM, and also on Saturday, November 11th from 11:00AM-12 Noon, where a Funeral Service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Eugene "Gene" Cassaro lived a long, fulfilling life, blessed with many friends and family. He was a well known icon from the west side of Buffalo. Gene grew up in large Italian family, including his sister Marie, with whom he was very close, and many beloved cousins. He attended P.S. 76, and was a graduate of McKinley High School. He was a proud, skilled machinist, often showing off the precise metal parts he made while working at Liston Manufacturing. Gene worked for Liston his entire career, and retired in 2008, having risen to plant supervisor. In retirement, Gene would make his daily rounds through the neighborhood, with trips to the bank, Tops, Burger King and the Post Office, and of course, his daily walks. If you were fortunate to meet him while he was walking his dog Emma, you were treated with a smile and a kind hello. Gene loved animals, and all the dogs in the neighborhood loved him for the treats he would bring them. Of course, no day would be complete for Gene without a trip to the Casino. Slot machines were his favorite past time, and Gene claimed many jackpots from casinos from Atlantic City, to Las Vegas, to Seneca in downtown Buffalo.
