Frank E. Sharkey Jr.

February 28, 1934 — January 13, 2020

Age 85, of Williamsville, NY, entered into rest Monday morning, January 13, 2020, surrounded by loving family after a short illness. Frank was born February 28, 1934 in Hammond, Indiana, to the late Francis Edward Sharkey Sr. and Lillian Sharkey (Barenie). Frank enjoyed a career as a Professor of Industrial Arts and Vocational Education at the State University College at Buffalo from 1966 until the early 90s, where he served as Chairman of the Department for a period and as a Professor at Illinois State University from 1957-1966, after receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ball State University and acting as a Graduate Assistant. He continued post-graduate work at the University of Illinois and University at Buffalo. He was an active member of the New York State Occupational Educational Association Executive Committee, served as the New York State Industrial Arts Association President, Executive Secretary and the Divisional Vice President over the years. Frank was a strong advocate for individuals with disabilities and traveled the country with a workshop increasing awareness and sensitivity. He was thrilled to watch his family continue the path of educating and supporting those with special needs. Frank was an athlete and received a scholarship for Track and Field to Ball State University, where he was a record-breaking runner. He excelled at racquetball, was President of the WNY Racquetball Association, and was an avid golfer for many years, always walking the course with 3 holes-in-one. Frank loved music, played the drums, and marched in the Inaugural Parade for President Eisenhower. He was a determined, insightful man with a playful sense of humor. Frank is survived by his daughters Dawn (Jim) Mack, Cindy (Steve) Kennealy, Jennifer (Eric) Sharkey, his sisters Joann and Judy, grandchildren Ryan, Kelsy, Courtney, and Brenna, great-grandchildren Maya and Skyler, former wife Pixie, nieces, nephews and caring friends.
