Frederick J. Bongiovanni

Of Buffalo, entered eternal rest on February 17, 2023, at age 88. Beloved husband of Maria (nee Sebastian) Bongiovanni; dearest father of Joseph (Lindsay) Bongiovanni, Lisa (James) Vlahos and Marla (Mark) LaMonte; loving "Papa" of Chelsea, Hailey, Nicholas and Matthew; son of the late Margaret and Joseph Bongiovanni; brother of the late Nina (Thomas) Lazzaro; treasured uncle to Linda (Ted) Steeg and Carol Scholes; brother-in-law of Delores (late John) Mambrino and Joseph (late Grace) Sebastian; also survived by many other family and friends. Bongi worked for the Buffalo Sewer Authority for over 30 years, starting as a sweeper and ultimately was promoted to plant superintendent, retiring in 1996. He was an Army Veteran that served during the Korean Conflict, a member of the WNY Softball Hall of Fame and a Butler Mitchell Alumnus. He enjoyed golfing, loved his dogs and was a true lover of horse racing, spending much of his earlier days at the local OTB. Above all, time spent with family is what brought Bongi the most joy. A special thanks to Davita Dialysis (Delaware Ave.) and BGMC staff for all the care and support over the years. Bongi fought the valiant fight to live for his family. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate a memorial mass at St. Margarets RC Church, 1395 Hertel Ave., Buffalo on Wednesday (February 22) at 10AM. Please assemble at Church.
