Obituary

George White lived his life with loyalty, humor, and a deep love for the people and place that made him who he was. Born and raised in Lackawanna, New York, George was a proud Buffalonian through and through. He passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026. George was the beloved husband of Eileen White; devoted father of Brian White, Christine White (Jon Stocker), and Lindsey White; and proud grandfather of Lachlan, Odette, and Eleanor, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Pallin. He was preceded in death by his parents, George B. White and Jessie White, his sister Kathy Schwarz, and his brother Jim White. Over a long career of public service and hard work, George earned lasting friendships and a reputation for loyalty, dependability, and a willingness to help anyone who needed it. He was the person people called when they needed advice, a second opinion, a recommendation, directions, a history lesson, or a good laugh. He always had an answer. And when he didn’t, he had a story instead, usually three. George loved Buffalo with a passion that qualified as professional expertise. He could tell you where to find the best meal, explain the history behind a building, recount a long-forgotten Buffalo sports moment, or point out something remarkable everyone else walked right past. Family visits regularly became guided tours, complete with commentary, historical context, and the occasional detour. He was a lifelong fan of Buffalo sports, Buffalo food, Buffalo history, and, above all, Buffalo people. He believed there was no better place on earth, and he spent a lifetime making sure everyone around him understood why. More than anything, George loved being with his family. He took tremendous pride in his children and grandchildren and never missed a chance to share their accomplishments, tell a story about them, or remind them where they came from. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and storyteller, George leaves behind a legacy rich in stories, laughter, and love. He believed that places matter because of the people in them and he spent a lifetime celebrating the city he loved and the people who made it special. Buffalo was lucky to have him, and so were we.
