Gladys Maul

March 16, 1933 — July 6, 2024

Gladys (Speed) Maul was born on March 16, 1933, to the late Ike and Lizzie Mae Speed, in Buffalo, New York. She departed this life peacefully, in her sleep, on July 6, 2024, at the blessed age of ninety-one! She was an awesome caregiver, learning responsibilities from an early age, often assisting her mother with their family of ten. Gladys attended Buffalo Public Schools and upon finishing High School, she worked as a Nurses Aide at both Sheehan Memorial (now ECMC) and Buffalo General Hospitals. She married the love of her life, Henderson Maul, in January of 1986. And while there werent any children from this Union, two of her nieces, Elizabeth (Dee-Dee) and Adreanna, were just like her own daughters and Ronnie, her nephew Ronnie, (as a son). Gladys was not only meticulous but very astute; sharp, keen and independent. She had rituals and habits that made her one of the strongest, funniest and most beloved persons. From her immaculate home, down to her proper speaking voice and the sound of her deep crackling laughter to knowing who was on the face of all currency. She enjoyed looking after her neighbors, cooking and talking on the phone (where shed stay up-to-date on family, community and world events) and with that beautiful smile, the family would await her presence, for many years, at the family reunion to bring her famous coconut cake. She also loved eating at the Olive Garden, Zhangs Chinese Buffet and the Family Tree Restaurants. Full of faith and always prayerful, Gladys loved quoting the Lords Prayer, and Mt. Zion Church of God Holiness, located at 32 Oakgrove Avenue, was her church home, under the late Rev. Stephens. Her parents, husband and close-knit siblings, (Curtis, Catherine, Lillie Mae, Isaac, Florence, Donald and Marshall), all preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory, immediate nieces, Arlene Robinson, Gwendolyn (Clyde) Hackney, (Toledo, OH), Elizabeth Taylor, Adreanna Speed and immediate nephews, Ronald and Delmar Speed, along with a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her good neighbors of "Olympic Avenue." Two special caregivers, Celena Taylor and Sheila Hamilton.
