Age 93, Hamburg, NY. Born October 15, 1919 in Scranton, PA, the son of Otto and Mary (Andrake) Donath. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Alice. Surviving are two brothers, Joseph and William (Marge) both in Scranton, PA; a son James (Lois); daughter Alice (Robert); grandchildren, Gabriel, Jessica (William), Rebekah (Nathan), Sarah; a great-grandson, Andrew and several nieces and nephews. He was a World War II veteran in the 9th Infantry Division. Enlisting in February 1942, he participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily and D-Day. Herbert was a fireman with the Bethlehem Steel Company until his retirement in 1982. He was a long time member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Athol Springs. His favorite pastime was fishing.
