Age 76, passed away in his home on November 22, 2022 at 11:22am. Jack was survived by his wife Thu, sisters Sharon Lazarek & Holly Lynn Harmon-Rupe, brothers Scott Kitchens and Thomas Harmon; his children: Brandon Kitchens, Nguyet Tamara "Tammy" Kitchens, Heather Nga Kitchens and grandson Jayton Blazina. Jack was born on June 10, 1946 to Jack Conway Kitchens and Barbara Schatzle-Harmon in Auburn, NY. Jack was a veteran of the Vietnam War and Cuban Missle Crisis. He served honorably in the United States Navy USNR as a Naval SWCC part of Seal Team 2 with Coastal Squadron 1/ Coastal Surveillance 1 achieving the rank of RD2. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He met and married his wife of 51 years Thu Thi Kitchens in Vietnam, and brought her and their daughter Tammy to the US in 1973. After Vietnam, Jack settled in Buffalo. By education and 8 years of study he became a polymath, acquiring multiple B.S degrees from the University of Buffalo in the fields of mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering and computer science. He had 2 minors, one in metallurgy and another in rubber technology. He also taught nursing chemistry at Auburn Community College. He became a world expert in Ultrasound and Piezoelectric Physics. He was awarded Inventor of the Year US Patent No. 7,558,410 with Stephen M. Gojevic and John K. Schneider and has 200+ registered patents. He wrote a book Ultrasound & Piezoelectric Physics for Engineers A Primer with Applications and Examples; 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th editions under his pen name Henry C. Savage which is used at Cambridge Universitys Engineering Department. Jack was an engineer at many places, including Pierce and Stevens Corp., Sierra Research, LTV Aerospace and Defense Co., Viatran, UltraScan and Qualcomm. He loved his family, friends and kitties. His free time consisted of photography, fishing and the outdoors. Many family trips were often to Cedar Point and going fishing and camping.
