James L. Kennedy

Of Williamsville, passed peacefully in his sleep after a long illness January 4, 2023. Beloved husband of 51 years to Susan M. (nee Herdlein) Kennedy; proud father of Sean Kennedy, Daniel Kennedy and Erinn (Gary) Blaser; cherished grandfather of Logan, Haley and the late Charlie Blaser; loving son of the late Leo J. and Eleanor Kennedy; dear brother of Leo J. (Betty), late Brian and the late Brendan Kennedy; also survived by nieces and nephews. "Big Jim", as he was thought of by many, was a devout Catholic, loved Buffalo sports teams, his friends and above all, his family. His legal career of 40+ years included work for the NYS and Erie County Departments of Law, the NYS Office of Court Administration and the NYS Department of Correctional Services. After retirement from government law, he went into private practice and continued volunteer work, most notably for the UB School of Law, Buffalo Niagara Trial Competition and Food Shuttle of WNY. He was always quick to help anyone in need and offered fairness in his professional endeavors. His sense of humor and sharp wit made for many laughs at family parties and social events. He will be missed by all who knew him. Relatives and friends may visit the LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Snyder Chapel) 4614 Main St., near Harlem Rd., on Thursday (January 12) from 4-8PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church, 200 St. Gregory Ct., Williamsville on Friday morning at 10:30AM. Please assemble at Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James name to FANA or Hospice Foundation.
