Jean Marie Glassmire, former claims adjuster, homemaker December 30, 1930 June 16, 2023 Jean Glassmire, of Kenmore, a claims adjuster, stenographer, and homemaker, died peacefully on June 16, 2023 under the care of the Brothers of Mercy in Clarence Center. She was 92. Jean was born in South Buffalo. She was raised by her loving parents James J. Hazel, Sr. and Ann L. Hazel (Donohue) two doors down from St. John the Evangelist Convent. She graduated in 1948 from Mount Mercy Academy. On October 8th 1955, Jean and William Walter Glassmire were married at St. John the Evangelist Church by the Rev. Richard C. Crumlish. Together with her husband Bill, and their children, they made their home in Kenmore, NY for over 60 years before moving into the Amberleigh Retirement Community in 2017. Jean was a life-long parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Kenmore. During her working years, Jean served as a stenographer, then as a claims adjuster for Albert F. Staeger Company in Buffalo and Orchard Park. When she retired after 23 years in 1996 the company became part of New York Central Mutual. Jean was very proud of her Irish heritage and won several awards for her Irish soda bread. She loved to watch her nieces dance with the Rince Na Tiarna Irish Dance troupe. She traveled to Ireland with her husband Bill, daughter Cathy her husband Tom (who chauffeured them around the Ring of Kerry and the Irish countryside) accompanied by her granddaughter Kelly. Her hobbies included, baking, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Mrs. Glassmire and her husband Bill were members of a card club for over 50 years which included her three MMA classmates and eventual bridesmaids: Thelma Schlehr, Gloria Harrington, and Carole Seidel. In retirement they travelled to Sanibel Island, Florida and stayed at the Gulf Breeze Cottages there for over 30 years. They also enjoyed traveling to Naples, Florida in their later years. In addition to her husband Bill, survivors include three children, David R. Glassmire of Amherst, Cathleen (Mark) Dechert of East Aurora and Lynn Wyland of Sevierville, TN and her brother James J. Hazel of Cheektowaga. There will be no prior visitation. Services will be held at the convenience of the family and will be private. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna, NY. Arrangements were made by Lombardo funeral home. Condolences may be offered atIn Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association of WNY in Jeans name.
