Obituary

Jose “Johnny” Sanchez, 83, of Buffalo, New York, will be remembered for his positive outlook on life, sense of humor, curiosity, and love for his family.

Johnny earned his Bachelor of Science in Social Work from the State University of New York at Buffalo and served in the United States Army. He later worked as a bus driver for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) until his retirement, where colleagues remembered him for his positive outlook on life.

Though a private person, Johnny was someone his family could count on. When someone needed help, he showed up. He loved learning, was a huge football and baseball fan, and remained active throughout his life as an avid runner.

Family meant so much to him, and he was happiest when everyone was together. He was immensely proud of his eight nieces and nephews and loved watching his family grow through many generations. His family will especially remember him walking through his sister’s door and calling out in his familiar boisterous voice, with a chuckle, “Anybody home?”

He was the son of the late Artemio and Virginia Sanchez and brother of the late Anibal Sanchez. He is survived by his sister, Adelaida Dones; brother, Edwin Sanchez; eight nieces and nephews; and many generations of extended family.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, October 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lombardo Funeral Home – Snyder Chapel, 4614 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14226. A funeral service will follow from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., with burial afterward at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
