A devoted math teacher who inspired generations of students with his humor, patience, and genuine care. An undefeated bodybuilding champion (mostly because no one else knew they were competing against him), he was often referred to as the modern-day Jack LaLame. Known for his impeccable sense of fashion, he provided "advisory services" to Giorgio Armani and was frequently sought after by Hallmark for his eloquent, heartfelt writing. According to his own press releases top NBA talent regularly reached out to him for mentorship.
Although he never received the key to the city (despite several "nominations" of his own making), he achieved far greater things: he made people laugh, helped students believe in themselves, and left everyone he met with a smile on their face and often shaking their heads.
Beloved husband to the late Kathleen (née Militello), loving father of Joseph J. Cercone and father-in-law of Elizabeth Cercone, proud grandfather of William, dear son of the late Roland and Rose (nee Simari) Cercone, and cherished brother of Linda Zimmerman, Susan Sheldon, Paul (Carolina) Cercone, Lori Joyce, Roland (Holly) Cercone, the late Patricia (Pasquale) Muffoletto and the late Louis (Kathleen) Cercone. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends he loved dearly.
Relatives and friends may visit the Lombardo Funeral Home (Northtowns Chapel), 885 Niagara Falls Blvd. near Eggert/ Sheridan Dr. on Thursday, November 20 from 4-7pm. A prayer service will immediately follow at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor him by sharing a laugh, helping someone learn something new, or lifting something heavy - with proper form, of course. Condolences may be shared on this page.
