Of Hamburg, entered into rest suddenly January 30, 2014, beloved son of the late Joseph and Rita (nee Schott) Schamann; dear brother of Kathy (Thomas) Wales, Matthew (Kim) Schamann, Patricia (Robert) Banish, Mary Schamann and Mark Schamann; cherished uncle of five nephews, three nieces, three grand-nephews, four grand-nieces; also survived by relatives and many friends. Joey was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Bishop Timon High School. He began working for the Erie County Sheriffs' Dept. on August 2, 1973 as a Sheriff's Deputy in the Narcotics Division under Sheriff Michael A. Amico and honorably served under four other sheriffs as the Identification Clerk and was fondly known as "Fingerprint Joey." He served 39 years in the Sheriffs' Dept., until his retirement on December 29, 2012. Joey received several accolades and letters of commendation for his dedication to service. He was loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his laughter, iron will, and his honesty and integrity.
