SAIA, Judith A. October 1, 1938 February 20, 2024 Died after a brief illness. Born Judith Monoski in Renovo, PA, she came to Buffalo to study nursing at Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing. As a surgical nurse, she was on the operating teams for many groundbreaking procedures in the 1950s and 1960s at Buffalo General. She then worked in medical-surgical nursing at St. Joseph Hospital. After marrying Salvatore F. Saia, Sr. in 1960, they renovated homes in Parkside, Snyder, and Hamburg while raising their family. In the 1970s, she and her husband founded Coronet Process Service, Inc., which they operated for more than 40 years, and it continues through the second and third generations of the Saia family. Judy was also an active community volunteer, serving as PTA president for Smallwood Drive School, Union Pleasant Elementary, and Hamburg Junior and Senior High Schools. She was also a Girl Scout Troop leader for many years and supported her children through Boy Scouting, sports, music, theatre, service organizations, and more. To know Judy was to love her. She gave affection and kindness freely and as such she enjoyed the love, appreciation, and respect of a wide circle of friends and family. She is survived by her children, Lisa (Raymond) August, David (Robert Palmer) Saia, and Salvatore F. Saia, Jr. (Charlene Morales); grandchildren Samantha Saia, Stephanie Saia, and Salvatore F. Saia, III; aunt Barbara S. Shaffer; cousins Cindy Shaffer, Christine Claar, Bob Shaffer, Barbara Fedele, and Wendy OConnor; nephews James (Ruth) Kapsiak and David Kapsiak; and many loving cousins and extended family. Predeceasing her were her husband; parents Jane and Charles Monoski; sister, Jane Monoski; aunt Mary Edwards; and cousin Mary Lee Edwards. The family will receive visitors on Thursday February 29, 2024, from 4-8 PM at LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Southtowns Chapel) 3060 Abbott Road, near Lake Ave. Orchard Park, NY 14127.
