As the eldest daughter in a family of eight children, Kathy was on a mission to be a caregiver from a very early age. Her career goal was to be the most caring nurse anyone ever encountered, and she pursued it through nursing school at Mercy Hospital, a move to Boston where she worked at Massachusetts General and Malden Hospital, a return to Buffalo for a B.S. degree from Daemen College, a stint at St. Francis Hospital, several years with Health Care Plan, and 14+ years as a rep for Janssen Pharmaceutica. There she excelled at sales with her combination of genuine caring, medical knowledge, and knowing how to get past the gatekeepers with the help of sincere interest and really good chocolate. Her caring genes also found outlets in being a mom, a grandmother, a sister, aunt and friend. Her patience was unparalleled; she always put kindness first in every human encounter. Kathy was a spark for others inviting conversation and getting even strangers to share their deepest thoughts and depart with a sense of, Wow, shes really easy to talk to. Kathy also used her caretaking skills as primary guardian for her sister Mimi Dundon, going above and beyond what any ordinary sibling might do for someone with Down Syndrome. She set the bar high. Her greatest joys in recent years were found in the company of Caroline, Violet, and Will, her beloved grandchildren. As with many of Irish heritage, a sense of humor was also important. Kathys friends recall numerous Lucy and Ethel moments where silliness made grown women giggle and laughter cut through stressful times. When she was young and adventurous, Kathy set out for a tour of Europe. She kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland and was very proud of skiing in the Alps. Later she embarked on more adventurous world travels with her partner of 19 years, Chuck Rozo. Kathy will be especially missed for her dazzling smile and inherent kindness. She was passionate about theatre and was a former board member for Shakespeare in Delaware Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to Shakespeare in Delaware Park shakespeareindelawarepark.org or Indicator Art indicatorart.org are most welcome.
