STAWASZ - Leon Peter J. Of Maine, formerly of Cheektowaga, entered into rest January 12, 2016, age 92, beloved husband of the late Anne E. (nee Zajac) Stawasz; devoted father of Dr. John (Jade) Stawasz, Carolyn (Ron) Gandy, Anne Marie (James) Kostecki, Rebecca (Frank) Sparacino, Leon Peter (Pamela) Stawasz and Donna Stawasz, MD; cherished Popa of Amber (David) Barnett, Catherine Gandy, Frank Jr., Zara, Rachael Sparacino, Nathan Stawasz and the late Justin Gandy; loving son of the late Andrew and Mary (nee Cyzio) Stawasz; dear brother of the late Anna (late William) Santorum, Magdalena (late Edward) Kalina, Clara (late Walter) Stempien, Mary (late Walter) Kalina, Joseph (late Genevieve), John (late Marion), Edward, William and Robert Stawasz; fond "grand-paw" of Kaya, Midas, Sabre, Nicki and Beckett. Great Grandpa of Sterling Barnett. No prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church, 263 Claremont Ave., Tonawanda, on Saturday (February 13) at 9:30 AM. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Syracuse. Leon was a graduate of Syracuse University, Class of 1953 and retired from the Food & Drug Administration. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII as a B-17 tailgunner with the Eighth Army Air Corps, 388th Bomb Group and was a POW.
