GATES III, Marc H. of Hamburg, entered into rest January 21, 2026. Beloved husband of Jedidah Gates; devoted father of Elizabeth, Matthew (Sylby), Jennifer, Jessica, and Katherine Gates; cherished grandfather of Austin, Ethan, Ella, and Max; loving son of the late Marc H. and Ruth Gates Jr.; dear brother of Evaline, Richard, Robert, Marie, Yvonne, Timothy (Angela) and Margaret Gates; adored uncle of Savanna, Shawn, Trevor, Max, Serie, Alicia, Ricky, Kenny, Tim, Jessica, Becca, Tabitha, Susie, Samantha, Donald, Wyatt, and Malinda; also survived by many family and friends.
No prior visitation. A Celebration of Marc’s life will take place at the Clint Fingerlow Church, 5933 Big Tree Rd., Orchard park on Saturday (August 1st) TBD.
Marc grew up on Gutekunst Road in Colden NY in a home with 99 acre Christmas Tree Farm, where his parents kept large gardens. When Marc was 18 they moved to Dayton NY. Marc attended Springville-Griffith High School and Bryant & Stratton College where he obtained his Accounting and Computer Programming Degrees. He worked at Bethlehem steel, doing Accounting & clerical support for the computer. The job wasn’t fulfilling, but the pay was good, and he got to play lots of chess there.
He worked in AS/400 programming at Gaymar before moving on to PSSC, then later Keynote System, then consulted for those and others as Gatescsc.
He was an IT consultant. He was a man of boundless energy and intelligence. Through his Journey he touched many lives with his wisdom, humor and unwavering spirit of perseverance Driven by endless thirst for knowledge he was a lifelong learner and IT consultant he had a passion for discovering new things and pursuit of truth. This spirit which characterized his life translated into lessons he earnestly imparted onto those around him.
Marc legacy of humor perseverance and learning and a go getter will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him . His remarkable life will forever be an inspiration a testament to the power of an indomitable, spirit enthused with curiosity and resilience. He will be greatly missed and forever remember.
