Mary Ellen (Mimi) Dundon

February 21, 1956 - August 4, 2025

Well-loved and cared for, Mimi was the daughter of Joe and Marian (Chandler) Dundon. She is survived by her brother Brian Dundon, sisters Maureen (late Douglas) Purcell, Patricia (late David) Larrabee, and Margaret Dundon (Thomas) Sullivan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents, Joe and Marian Dundon, brothers Michael (Jean) Dundon and Terence Dundon (Barbara Schreck), and sister Kathleen Dundon Sullivan.

Mimi is also survived by her loving family of caretakers and housemates at Heritage Christian Services’ group home on Grand Island.

She lived a life of joy, appreciating simple pleasures like pizza, diet cola, movies, a box of 64 sharp crayons, a trail of word search books leading to the Christmas tree, and dressing in costume for her themed birthday parties. Also opening a mound of presents. Growing up in a big Irish family made a sense of humor essential; she could match sarcasm with just about anyone.

That’s not to say she was all about fun. This girl had a serious work ethic, and was thrilled to have a task to fill, from assembling papers at her sister Pat’s company to sorting pens or dog biscuits at her Dayhab center. Like most of us, she appreciated having her efforts acknowledged, noting, “It’s nice to be recognized.”

Mimi was also happy to share her creative talents, especially with anyone willing to pay a quarter for one of her handcrafted potholders. More recently, her art skills were fine-tuned through painting classes led by Matt Palmo of Indicator Art, a non-profit dedicated to working with adults with developmental disabilities. Her sassy spirit and effervescent personality brought smiles to all who knew her. She was a true ray of sunshine who will be greatly missed.

Friends may call at Lombardo Funeral Home in Snyder on Friday, August 15 from 4-6 pm, with a funeral service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations to Indicator Art, Hospice Buffalo, or Heritage Christian Services are greatly appreciated.
