Mary P. Portka

Mary Portka (née Oreski), of Hamburg, passed away peacefully at the age of 93. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Portka and the loving daughter of the late John and Pauline Oreski. Mary was a cherished sister to the late Stephen Oreski, the late Anne Friend, and the late Josephine (late James) Ewing. She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews Mark (Deb) Friend, Cheryl (James) Suffoletto, Carla (Rocky) Casullo, Michelle Tasseff, and David Ewing, as well as by her great-nieces, great-nephews, and many close friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Bistrica Church, 1619 Abbott Rd., Lackawanna, on Saturday, July 19th at 11:00 AM. There will be no prior visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Lombardo Funeral Home (Southtowns Chapel).

Mary passed away just shy of her 94th birthday. Known affectionately by many as “Aunt Mary,”  whose warmth, generosity, and sense of fun left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Mary’s life was centered around family, friendship, and community. She had a sharp wit, a stylish eye, and a heart that welcomed everyone. She never missed a chance to compliment someone’s appearance or share a kind word. Her life was filled with laughter, joy, and countless gatherings where she was often the life of the party. Mary’s presence was a gift, and she will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
