Obituary

Michael M. Beam, 71, of Amherst NY finally used up what his family thought was an endless supply of nine lives and passed on March 3, 2026, after waging a fierce battle with a fast moving cancer. Born on September 16, 1954, to Donald and Joyce Beam in Albion, NY, he grew up on a farm with his brothers, where he learned hard work, equipment operation and repair and developed a deep appreciation for hands-on, real-world education. This began a diverse career with an up-bringing that taught him that anything was possible if you just put your mind to it.

He had an extraordinary talent in welding, fabrication, and problem solving - evidenced by designing and building multiple inventions with his brothers - two of which were awarded patents. He was an owner/operator of semi trucking, a mechanic and service garage owner, and a Kodak employee. In 1998 Mike joined Gemcor (now Ascent Aerospace) and was a dedicated team member for 29 years. He was a highly intelligent and deeply dedicated Controls Engineer. His work will leave a lasting mark on the aerospace industry. Mike played a key role in multiple innovations and patents that advanced manufacturing capabilities and helped shape the company's success. His expertise and commitment took him all around the world, installing complex systems at aerospace facilities where commercial aircraft are assembled. His most recent achievement was completing a major upgrade at an aerospace plant in Portugal.

Mike's hobbies were many - a passion for fast classic cars and motorcycles, boating and drag racing probably used up some of his nine lives. His pride and joys included a custom built 4WD El Camino, a VW dune buggy, and resto-mods of a 68 El Camino and a 70 Challenger. He collected and modified model trains, and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with close friends who shared his passion for classic muscle cars.

Mike is survived by his wife, Olena, his daughter Stacey (Randy), stepson Bohdan, brother Roger (Debbie), and grandchildren Alexandria and Nathan, nephews and nieces - Daniel, Loren, Lisa as well as his many friends from Penasack, Kodak, and Ascent Aerospace.

He was predeceased by his brothers Curtis and Richard (Valerie).

The family has chosen to forego traditional services in lieu of a remembrance at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's name to the American Cancer Society.
