Michael John Mangino Sr., passed away on October 26, 2023 while in hospice care at the age of 93. He was born in Western New York on June 6, 1930 to Dominic and Mary Mangino. He grew up in a large family with 8 sisters and 3 brothers. Mike married Hazel Bendzula and together had 7 children: Ramona (Max) Strasser, Rosanne (Gene)Kubisty, Michelle Jaeger, Annette (Pete) Graefing, Linda (Mario)Flores, Michael (Kim) Mangino Jr., and Tom (Amy) Mangino. He was know as Papa to his 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mike enjoyed the construction industry, owner of Curtis Construction, Appliance Spraying, and also worked at the Ford Stamping Plant of Hamburg. Mike owned and operated a clam stand attached to the former Windom Grill at the corner of Lake and Abbott in Orchard Park. He was involved with Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Orchard Park as an usher, Holy Name Society and was appointed 4th degree Knight with Knights of Columbus. Mike held many chicken barbecues and pig roasts for his church, family and friends over the years. Mike was an avid Yankees fan and was never seen without his Yankees baseball cap. He loved his cooking, making spaghetti sauce and passing his cooking traditions to his children and grandchildren. He was devoted to providing for his family and making memories with family and friends. The family is working on a Celebration of Life and will update loved ones as details are arranged. Donations can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo in lieu of flowers.
