Peter J. Wiatrowski , 81, of Cheektowaga, NY, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025. Peter was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn (Szeluga) and his dear children Lisa, Peter (late Colleen), Jeffrey (Margaret), and Karen (Andrew). He was the proud and cherished grandfather of Andrew (Jennifer), Khris (Sam), Tyler, Nathan, and Miah, and a great-grandfather to Sofia. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
Peter was the son of the late Anthony and Lucille (Majchrzak) Wiatrowski and the dear brother of the late James and Audrey Wiatrowski. Peter grew up in Lancaster and had many fond memories of his childhood adventures. Peter had a rewarding career in which he took great pride at General Motors (GM), where he worked for over 38 years. He retired from the Tonawanda Engine Plant, but his favorite years were those spent working at the GM Saginaw/American Axle Complex on Delavan Avenue. Peter had fond memories of his time there, and it was truly the highlight of his career.
Peter enjoyed the quiet moments in life and reveled in long bike rides and being out in nature. He also enjoyed the time spent going out for breakfast with his family, enjoying good food, sharing stories, and creating lasting memories together. Peter had a passion for building things, often using old car radios and other materials to create unique projects. His creativity and resourcefulness were evident in everything he made.
Peter took great pride in his work, but his family was everything to him, and he always prioritized spending quality time with them. From the day he met his loving wife, he was enamored with her and together they created a wonderful life. His favorite days were when he was working on projects with his children, or in later years building an outdoor space for his grandson and his friends to hangout in. Peter’s warm heart, sense of humor, and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the Lombardo Funeral Home (Southtowns Chapel), 3060 Abbott Road, Orchard Park (near Lake Ave.) on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart RC Church on Friday morning at 10:00 AM. Peter will be laid to rest at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Peter's memory.
