of Buffalo, NY passed on of sudden illness at the Buffalo VA Medical Center. He was born in Jamestown, NY to Beverly Dawn McIntyre Peterson and Marshall R. Peterson. He graduated from Westfield Academy and Central School and enlisted in the US Army as a medic paratrooper during the Vietnam Conflict. After his service, he discovered a passion for wood working and became a talented carpenter and master of many house building trades. He could build or repair anything. Phil is survived by his life partner Ardis Payne, son Philip Peterson II, daughters Angela Peterson and Juliet Peterson, stepsons Joey Perez and Rodney Hemus, 13 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, all of Buffalo. He is also survived by his first wife Jeannette Peterson of Buffalo. His siblings are Victoria Templeton and Michelle Calavitta of Bemus Point, Joel (Shawnee) Peterson of Tucson AZ, stepsister Shari Swanson of Cary NC, and cousin Jill (Craig) Colburn of Bemus Point NY. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Jack Brady, stepbrother Roger (Sonja) Swanson of Sinclairville NY, and uncle Joseph Samuel Peterson of Fluvanna NY. Phil was a wild spirit who loved this planet and all the nature it contained. He enjoyed surfing the Southern California waves in his early years and growing vegetables on his roof top patio later in life. He was a kind, caring soul with blue eyes and a wonderful smile who always put family and friends first. His absence has left a deep hole in our hearts. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude for the wonderful care Phil received at the Buffalo VA Medical Center, and also thank Mark (Jill) Perez for their kindness and support during his final day. Per his wishes, there will be no services but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
