Richard Louis Fontana passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in Tonawanda, New York, at the age of 78.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his son, William (Jen); and his cherished granddaughter, Autumn. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia (the late David) Hussar and Linda (Michael) Nowaczyk, along with many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Richard was a longtime employee of the City of Buffalo, where he worked in several departments, most notably as an electrician and in animal control. He took deep pride in his work and was always someone others could count on.
Richard-known to many as Rick or Dick-was a true friend to all who knew him. He was always the first to lend a helping hand, whether it was offering to help fixing something, or showing up with an extra light bulb or ceiling fan. He had a deep love for the New York Yankees, classic cars, bowling, and spending time at coffee with friends. Above all, nothing brought him more joy than being Papa to his cherished granddaughter, Autumn Rose.
He will be remembered for his generosity and the way he showed up for anyone, anytime. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be planned in the near future for family and friends to gather and honor Richard's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Buffalo in his memory.
