Of Buffalo, beloved husband of Arleen B. (nee Tombari) Mecca; devoted father of Robert A. Mecca, Sr.; cherished grandfather of Robert (Jenny) Mecca, Jr. and Dina (Todd) Benderson; adored great-grandfather of Ariel, Ava, Brady and Noah; fond father-in-law of Deborah Mecca; loving son of the late Augustine and Mildred (nee Lavango) Mecca; dear brother of Augustine "Snooks" (Betty) Mecca and the late Shirley (late Theodore) Rosen; also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Richard has been a local musician in the Buffalo, Western New York area for over 60 years. He started playing the piano at nine years of age. His mother pushed him to practice and it was during this time that he found his passion for music. In the 60's he traveled with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. He also played with notable national jazz recording artist/singer Mark Murphy. Richard played locally at the Royal Arms, Towne Casino, Victor Hugo Wine Bar,The Parklane, The Cloister and many other well-known Buffalo establishments. He also enjoyed composing and teaching. Richard is a life-long resident of Buffalo and worked for the Department of Social Services for 34 years before retiring and turning full time to his musical passion.
