Stiefler, Ruth L. (nee Landis)
December 31, 1935 – July 3, 2025
Entered into rest July 3, 2025. Eldest daughter of Benjamin Harrison Landis, Bucks County, PA and
Myrtle S. Landis (nee Marsh), originally of Arkona, Ontario, Canada. Beloved wife of the late David C.
“Uncle Dave” Stiefler: dear sister of Elsie L. (Alan) Dyer, of Tasmania, Australia, Evelyn L. (late Peter)
Morse, of Tasmania, Australia, Winnifred (late Ernest) Heims, of MO, late Earl (Naomi) Landis, of PA,
and the late George M. (Jean) Landis, of PA: beloved aunt to various nieces and nephews and “aunt” to
hundreds more. A private interment will be held for the family at Hillcrest Cemetery. A Celebration of
Life will be held at a later date at Revive Wesleyan Church, Hamburg.
Ruth Landis Stiefler was born near and grew up on the Landis family farm in Plumsteadville, PA. Ruth
and her siblings attended a one-room schoolhouse in their younger years on the edge of the farm property
before going to the local high school. She left home at the age of 17 for nurse’s training in Chicago, IL.
After graduating, Ruth traveled to many countries in Asia-Pacific and throughout her life traveled widely
encouraging missionaries in countries all over the world. She was instrumental in the compilation of the
first Christian Missions in Many Lands (CMML) Missionary Prayer Handbook. Over the years, she and
her husband enjoyed hosting many people in their home, especially international students around the
holidays. Together they traveled the country and into Canada, helping local churches with outreaches to
their communities, through family Bible meetings for over 30 years.
For over 40 years, she directed Greenwood Hills Girls Camp as Ranger Ruth in Fayetteville, PA, which
was the camp she attended as a child, as well as Camp Iroquoina in Hallstead, PA for a few years after it
was founded in 1973. Each year, after her girls’ camp work was completed, she would join her husband at
Camp Li-Lo-Li in Randolph, NY as he worked with the children and teens there. Uncle Dave and Aunt
Ruth sent out birthday cards to everyone and anyone that had a connection with Camp Li-Lo-Li every
year. This was a ministry she continued after Uncle Dave’s home calling in 2016 until just a few weeks
before her death. Another wonderful talent she had was playing the piano. She enjoyed accompanying many
hymn sings through the years.
Aunt Ruth moved down to Smith Mountain Lake, VA with a niece 2021 and enjoyed fellowshipping at
Fleming Chapel in Roanoke, VA. In September 2024, she settled in at Pittsboro Christian Village in
Pittsboro, NC where she enjoyed the remainder of her life with old and new friends. Her family truly
appreciates the care she received there in the last weeks of her life.
Aunt Ruth is remembered by many, many people as someone who invested in the lives of those with
whom she came into contact. She loved people and enjoyed communicating whether by writing letters, or
emailing, phone calls, texting, or through social media, but most of all by visiting in-person. She has been
a role model for so many as she lived her life for the glory and honor of the Lord Jesus.
The memorial will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bayview Chapel at Revive
Wesleyan Church located at 4999 McKinley Parkway, Hamburg, NY 14075.
