Shirley J. Maclin passed away on June 9th, 2026.

Raised with a firm Christian background, Shirley was a beautiful soul with a remarkably generous heart. She was a native of Buffalo, New York, born to the late Floyd L. Maclin, Sr. and Carrie M. Maclin.

Shirley's educational journey began in Buffalo, where she attended East High School and was consistently on the honor roll. She went on to attend Buffalo State Teacher’s College, receiving her BA in Nutritional Science, and later pursued her Master's degree at Tuskegee University. While at Tuskegee, she took great pride in being on campus during the historic era when Lionel Richie and the Commodores were there.

Following in the footsteps of her late mother, Shirley developed an incredible talent for cooking. She loved cooking for family and friends, and if you ever wanted her to bring a dish to an event, she would arrive with a bountiful spread. Her generosity was unmatched; on a birthday, she wouldn't just give you one gift, but an entire bag of items. She found joy in the simple, fulfilling things in life: sewing, gardening, and working on crossword puzzles. In her youth, she also loved listening to the sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley. Above all, she deeply cherished the time she spent growing up with her late grandmother, Nannie McCrorey.

Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Jacinta B. Maclin.

She was a dear sister to her siblings: Floyd L. Maclin Jr. (Devorah), Michael Maclin, Willie J. Maclin (Christine), Christopher E. Maclin (Sandra), and Cynthia M. Maclin.

She was also an adored aunt to Dr. Marissa, Michael Jr. (Dania), Evan, and the late Myron Maclin. She will be profoundly missed by her extensive family and many friends.

Relatives and friends may visit St. John Baptist Church (184 Goodell St., Buffalo) on Friday, June 19 from 11-12, where a Homegoing Service will immediately follow at 12 noon. Interment St. John Cemetery.
