Wallace C Odden

May 27, 1951 — September 14, 2023

ODDEN, Wallace C. "Wally" of North Boston, a gifted musician and devoted music teacher for the Buffalo Public Schools entered into rest on September 14, 2023 in Buffalo, NY. Born on May 27, 1951 in Buffalo, NY he leaves behind a rich legacy of music that will echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Wally found his passion for music at a young age, initially through piano lessons, and at the age of 16, by joining his first rock band "The Restless". He enjoyed sharing his talents with various blues and rock bands throughout his life. After graduating from Kensington High School, he pursued higher education at the University of Buffalo, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. He devoted 36 years teaching within the Buffalo Public Schools, spanning multiple buildings and grade levels, until his retirement from City Honors High School in 2009. He continued to actively substitute teach through 2022. Wally quietly believed in the power of service to others, regularly volunteering to lead music for church services, various service groups and dedicating countless hours afterschool and in the evenings as music director for numerous high school musical productions. He was always quick with a pun or play on words, and liked playing Wordle, Scrabble and completing crossword puzzles. In his free time, he enjoyed camping with his wife, making BBQ, and cheering on the Buffalo Bills. He instilled in his children and grandchildren a deep appreciation for music, the value of a dollar, humor, and kindness. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Irene Odden; daughter Andrea (Joseph) Tredent and son Nathan (Ashley) Odden; grandchildren Natalie, Carmella, Donald, and Luca; brothers, David (Linda) and Glenn (Mindy) Odden; and many family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace E. and Carmella Odden. A Memorial Service to celebrate Wallys life will be held on Saturday, September 23rd, at 11 am in St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 3487 N Boston Rd., Eden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Wallys honor may be made to the City Honors Foundation, an organization close to his heart that aims to ensure that all students, regardless of background, have the same opportunities.
