Walter M. Scales Sr.

SCALES - Walter M., Sr. Of Buffalo, entered into rest April 2, 2019. The firstborn child of the late Hardin Scales and Throda Scales, was born January 15, 1947 in Washington D.C. Walter attended Buffalo Public Schools where he eventually graduated from South Park High School in 1966. After graduating high school, he attended Buffalo State College, for several years before being drafted in the U.S Army. Walter served in the U.S Army as a Medical Corpsman from 1969 to 1971 overseas in Korea. Upon returning home he served for many years in the Active Reserves until May 25,1988 when he was honorably discharged. After leaving the U.S Army in 1988, Walter had been employed for numerous service employments such as EJ Meyers Hospital, Buffalo City Courts (where he served Court Clerk), and Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital, before taking employment with the NYS Corrections in 2001 as a Correctional Officer. During his time as a C.O. he started his career at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, and later transferred to Groveland Correctional Facility. He leaves to cherish his memories: his Wife; Shierry Scales three children; Walter M. Scales II, Justin C. Scales, and Genevieve A. Scales, his six siblings; Willie Scales (late Betty S.), Hardin Scales (Lilly S.), Carson Scales (Deborah S.), and Nolan Scales (Valencia S.), two sisters: Nora Scales and Carolyn Scales (late sibling Jerome Scales), and also a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Relatives and friends may visit Lighthouse Gospel Tabernacle, 883 Sycamore St., Buffalo, on Monday from 10-11 AM. A Funeral Service will immediately follow.
