Zigmunds Zilgme

Zigmunds "Ziggy" Zilgme, 93, of Pendleton NY, passed away on Monday July 22, 2024 at Weinberg Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. His family would like to thank all the staff there for taking care of him. Born in Riga, Latvia, he was the son of the late Fricis and Franceska Zilgme. During the Second World War, Ziggy and most of his family emigrated to Sweden, then Canada. He arrived in the United States in 1957 to marry and work in Des Moines, IA. He became a US citizen in 1976. He was the owner and operator of Baltic Collision in Buffalo. Later he was employed as a machinist/mechanic by Milk Bone (Nabisco) in Buffalo for 25 years retiring in 1995. Ziggy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna (Pudans), sons John (Karin), Richard (Pamela), William and his sisters-in-law Maria Zilgme and Helen DeBartolo. Ziggy is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild along with nieces, and nephews throughout the USA, Canada, and Latvia. It always made Ziggy smile when his grandchildren and great grandchildren called him "Papa Zig". He was predeceased by his son Victor, his brothers Arthurs, Wilhelms, Richards, Leons, and sister Gaida. Ziggy and Anna traveled many times to Latvia, and also enjoyed being chauffeured by William on long road trips throughout the years. They visited most of the states including Alaska and the Canadian provinces. Relatives and friends may visit the Lombardo Funeral Home, 4614 Main St., Snyder (near Harlem) from 3-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 4125 Union Road, Cheektowaga on Saturday, July 27 at 9:30am (please assemble at church). Interment Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made on this page.
