GETMAN - Doris M. (nee Kabel) of Buffalo, entered into rest March 20, 2023 at the age of 96. Beloved wife of the late Edgar Getman; devoted mother of Harold (Diane) Getman, Patrica (Tony) Eyerman, Daniel (Kathy), Thomas (Cari) and the late James (Nancy) Getman; cherished grandmother of 10, great-grandmother of 16, and great-great grandmother of 1; loving daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (nee Wakenheim) Kabel; dear sister of the late Irma (Les) Roselle, Joe (Peggy), Louis, Vincent (Emiko), Richard (Mito) and Robert (Carol) Kabel; also survived by many family and friends. No prior visitation. A Celebration of Doris’ life will be held in the summer. Having been joyfully married to Edgar for 67 years and giving a wonderful childhood to 5 children, she continued to enjoy her life with 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. God and her family were the center of her life. So many, many fond memories cannot be expressed in words for as soon as one is voiced it triggers another dearer, funnier than the last one. We will all miss her presence in our lives. She graduated from Bennett High School with secretarial training and worked until the birth of her first child. She then chose to be a “stay at home” mom to her five children: James, Harold, Patricia, Daniel, and Thomas. While raising her children she supported their endeavors by being a Cub Scout leader, helping with many classroom activities, using her baking and sewing skills for fundraisers, and camping with Campfire Girls. When she returned to the workforce, she was a private secretary to a chemistry professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo. While employed in that position she also provided support to many students with their dissertations. She was a skilled and prolific seamstress whose work touched many lives through gifts and donations to Ladies of Charity. She is especially remembered for her beautiful quilts. She was a life-long learner and pursued yoga, cross country skiing, watercolor painting, and calligraphy just to name a few of her endeavors. Throughout her 35 years as a parishioner at St. Amelia’s in Tonawanda she was a familiar face volunteering in their Out Reach program. Her Kris Kringle cookies were always a requested item for banquets. She was an avid bowler, golfer, and walker. “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.’” Arrangements by LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Northtowns Chapel).
